You can recharge a FASTag through UPI by sending the amount to its NETC FASTag UPI ID, written as netc.vehiclenumber@bankupihandle, from BHIM UPI or any other UPI-enabled app. The payment is authorised with your UPI PIN and credits the prepaid wallet linked to your tag. The steps and the list of bank UPI handles are given below.
If you are using a FASTag which is linked to a prepaid wallet, you need to recharge it as and when required to make hassle-free toll payments.
One of the ways to recharge the prepaid wallet is through BHIM UPI.
Follow the steps mentioned below to recharge the FASTag through BHIM UPI:
Step 1: Log in to the BHIM UPI application.
Step 2: Click on 'Send' to initiate the transaction.
Step 3: Feed "netc.vehiclenumber@bankupihandle" in send to tab.
Step 4: Verify the UPI ID.
Step 5: Enter the recharge amount.
Step 6: Authenticate the transaction with your PIN.
The same NETC FASTag UPI ID can also be used to recharge your FASTag from other UPI-enabled apps such as Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe, not just BHIM UPI.
For example, if your vehicle number is MH04AB1234 and your FASTag is issued by ICICI Bank, your FASTag UPI ID will be netc.MH04AB1234@icici.
To find your issuing bank, check the bank logo or name at the top of your FASTag sticker, or the registration or credit SMS you received for your FASTag.
The recharge amount can be as low as Rs.1 for an existing FASTag wallet. After a successful recharge, you receive an SMS confirming that your FASTag wallet has been credited.

FASTag recharge through UPI works by sending the amount to your NETC FASTag UPI ID, which combines your vehicle number with the UPI handle of the bank that issued your tag. Verify the ID, enter the amount and authorise the payment with your UPI PIN from BHIM UPI or any UPI-enabled app. Check the handle table above for your bank before you pay.
A FASTag is an RFID sticker fixed on a vehicle's windscreen that lets toll plazas on national highways collect tolls electronically. The toll is deducted automatically from the prepaid wallet or bank account linked to the tag. A FASTag linked to a prepaid wallet therefore needs recharging, and UPI is one of the ways to do it.
Yes, you can recharge a prepaid-wallet FASTag through UPI by sending the amount to its NETC FASTag UPI ID from BHIM UPI. It works like any other UPI payment and is authorised with your UPI PIN. A FASTag linked directly to a bank account is topped up from that account, so check how your tag is linked.
To recharge a FASTag through BHIM UPI, log in to the app, choose Send and enter your NETC FASTag UPI ID in the send-to field. Verify the UPI ID, enter the recharge amount and authorise the payment with your UPI PIN. The steps are listed in full under the recharge heading above.
The FASTag UPI ID follows the format netc.vehiclenumber@bankupihandle. It combines your vehicle number with the UPI handle of the bank that issued your FASTag. The handles are listed in the table above.
The UPI handle depends on the bank that issued your FASTag and is listed against that bank in the table above. You can identify your issuing bank from the logo or name on the FASTag sticker or from the SMS received when the tag was registered or credited.
Verifying the UPI ID confirms that the ID you typed is registered before you enter the amount and authorise the payment. It helps you catch a wrong vehicle number or bank handle before any money leaves your account.
Yes, the same NETC FASTag UPI ID can be used from other UPI-enabled apps. The steps are broadly the same as in BHIM UPI, so choose the send or pay-to-UPI-ID option and enter your FASTag UPI ID.
No, the FASTag UPI ID is a separate ID meant only for recharging your FASTag. It is formed from your vehicle number and your issuing bank's UPI handle, and not from your personal UPI ID.
Recharge limits are set by the issuing bank and depend on the KYC status of your FASTag wallet, so they can differ from one tag to another. Check the current limits with your issuing bank before recharging a large amount.
The available payment modes depend on your FASTag issuer. UPI is one of the online options, and issuers commonly also offer net banking and cards through their portal or app.
Yes, the KYC status of your FASTag wallet can affect how much you can load and whether recharging remains available. Completing or upgrading your KYC with the issuing bank keeps your FASTag recharge through UPI hassle-free.
Most of the time the FASTag balance is updated instantly after a successful UPI payment. However, a slight delay in updating the payment status is possible.
If your FASTag balance is not updated even after a successful transaction through BHIM UPI, contact the tag-issuing bank. Share your registered mobile number, the payment reference ID and your vehicle registration number so that the bank can trace the payment.
The UPI ID will usually fail verification, so recheck your vehicle number and your issuing bank's handle before trying again. If the money has been debited but the FASTag balance has not changed, contact the tag-issuing bank with your payment reference ID.
